Discussion of PMC03
Discussion of rationale for creating a BSD license for XML artefact
Legal feedback from Microsoft
- currently possible to distribute (with difficulty) as part of Debian etc
- risk is of modification if we change, and that associate with AMQP
- possible protection with trademark
- trademark law is difficult - needs active consistant enforcement
- trademarking "AMQP" may be difficult to enforce.
- letters accompanied by logo may be easier to enforce
- need to think of big picture
CT: Should we be thinking through all consequences before voting?
JOH: We are in build out "welcome everyone" phase
When we are a large vibrant market we will have more of a difficulty in ensuring compatibility
JOH: Still need to action around the funding
CT: Trademark or certification? Think certification might be a less messy route.
Investment should be in testability
JOH: Agree
AR: We don't need to change the license
We need to release an additional artefact
Doesn't need to be part of AMQP
JOH: it would be a build tool
AR: "Prior Art" in IETF in terms of making speicific parts of IETF recommendations BSD licensed
Alternative would have been to change license to allow modification without passing off
Agree that Trademark is over heavy
RF: Still in discussions as to how iMatix
CT: has the correct BSD license been put in
JOH: Believe that has been corrected
RS: Are we removing labels as well as docs
JOH: no
HC: People using their own code generation - this won't help
JOH: The graphic cannot currently be used other than by members of the working group... and with specific conditions in the contract
